<p> Today, almost six months after the April tornadoes came through Texas and up the east coast, many homes have still not been rebuilt. Those that have, are rebuilt with the same stick-framed construction methods that failed in the first place. Local contractors have a huge backlog, so many devastated families are just waiting in motels and rented houses while nothing is being done.</p>

His factory, just north of Raleigh, North Carolina, can cut and number a pre-fab kit for the walls and roof of the replacement home that the homeowner and his family and friends can erect with electric drills. Because the walls are solid Gluelam timber, which is stronger pound-for-pound than steel, the new home is much more likely to survive the next storm- which might be a tornado, hurricane, or ice event that brings down trees.</p>

<p>Enertia Gluelam walls were invented for an entirely different reason- for energy efficiency. The invention revolutionized house building- for the first time wooden walls were used to store and release solar energy. But the engineered wooden solid wall components are also incredibly strong and impact resistant, perfect for building a Tornado Safe structure. The hot water in a spa causes vasodilation, which is a fancy way of saying the blood vessels loosen up and allow more blood to flow, lowering blood pressure. <p>The partners plan to collaborate with the Portland Water Bureau on a project that will use Lucid Energy’s patented LucidPipe™ Power System, a unique, in-pipe turbine that captures energy from fast-moving water inside of gravity-fed water pipelines to produce clean, reliable, low-cost electricity. The partners also will identify innovative applications for the technology, such as providing power to eco-districts, car charging stations, desalination plants, purification systems and off-grid water agency tasks.</p>

<p>In a statement issued by the PDC and the City of Portland, Mayor Sam Adams said, “This agreement with Lucid Energy is an opportunity for us to extend Portland’s position as a living laboratory for green innovation and advanced manufacturing – and commercialize new technologies in our marketplace that will lead to more jobs, more investment, and more exports of locally-developed systems.”</p>

<p>The agreement also calls for collaboration on a first-ever in-conduit hydropower symposium in Portland, with the prospect of drawing the participation of both local and international leaders in energy and water technology.</p>
